Indonesia Crypto Transactions Decline in February 2025: OJK Analysis and Response

In February 2025, the value of crypto asset transactions in Indonesia experienced a significant decline, reaching Rp32.78 trillion.

This figure marks a decrease from Rp44.07 trillion recorded in January 2025.

Nevertheless, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) reported that the number of crypto asset users continued to rise, reaching 23.31 million by the end of February, up from 22.92 million the previous month.

OJK’s Efforts to Strengthen the Crypto Sector

According to information from Coinvestasi media, since the supervision of crypto assets was officially transferred from Bappebti to OJK in January 2025, the agency has taken various steps to strengthen the sector.

One such step includes the formation of a working team to ensure a smooth transition of oversight.

In addition, OJK emphasized the importance of cybersecurity in monitoring digital assets and has developed a cybersecurity framework as a foundational reference for future regulation.

Education and Innovation Initiatives

OJK is also actively promoting innovation in the digital financial sector through its Sandbox program.

As of March 2025, five Financial Sector Technology Innovation (ITSK) providers have entered the Sandbox, four of which are based on digital and crypto assets.

Additionally, OJK continues to receive new applications to join the program, indicating strong interest in innovation within the sector.

Conclusion

Although there was a decline in crypto transaction value in Indonesia in February 2025, the increase in user numbers and OJK’s proactive measures indicate that the sector still holds significant growth potential.

With a focus on security, education, and innovation, the crypto industry in Indonesia is expected to develop in a sustainable manner.
